Sourdough Bread Baking Class

The best way to learn is to get your hands dirty! In this 2-hour class, we will practice mixing, kneading, shaping, scoring, and baking a traditional sourdough batard (an oval-shaped loaf). You will leave class with your own sourdough starter, banneton proofing basket, and a dough to bake at home the same evening as class. You will also digitally receive a PDF of the recipe used in class with notes to follow at home. 

Baking methods discussed: 

  • Dutch oven
  • Bread oven/cloche
  • Pizza stone

Necessary tools for baking at home: 

  • Kitchen scale
  • One of the discussed baking vessels or stone
  • Sourdough starter*
  • Flour
  • Water
  • Salt

Optional tools:

  • Danish/dough whisk
  • lame or straight blade to score dough
